Vancouver is home to a thriving arts and culture scene. There’s always something exciting happening, no matter what time of the year it is. The stages are always hot here, too, when it comes to theatre. From improv to locally produced to touring productions, there is no shortage of works to enjoy, no matter what your taste. Take a look at three not-to-miss productions this season and, of course, be sure to book your stay with us here at Best Western Plus Uptown Hotel. We’re conveniently located in historic Mount Pleasant — which is a hub for the arts as it is — with gorgeous rooms and suites, on-site amenities including a courtyard and fitness solarium, and fantastic rates. THE CEASEFIRE SERIES

Taking place at various theatres running out of the Cultch from October 30 to November 17, this series of stage productions showcase three different stories of war to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the armistice of WWI. The Believers Are But Brothers is a one-man show that explores online extremism; SmallWaR has performer Valentijn Dhaenens reflecting upon letters sent home from soldiers at war; and Three Winters has modern, millennial actresses put on a play about mid-century women, who enact the WWII men in camps, performing Shakespeare.

SWEAT

Running at the historic Stanley Theatre until November 18, Sweat is a Pulitzer Prize-winning play. The plot follows three women and lifelong friends who work in the same factory, and the different paths their lives have taken. An examination of a community and identity in the midst of America’s changing landscape.

THEATRESPORTS

Relying on sharp wit, creative impulse, and audience suggestions, two teams compete against each other in improv matches. TheatreSports is a Granville Island institution and they have shows — no two ever the same! — throughout each week. Take a look at their schedule here
